Reducing decent work deficit in the informal economy
The project strategy is to address the problems of marginalized women in the informal weaving sector through the economic empowerment of women to effectively participate in the sector, while also helping to transform the sector from the informal to formal economy. This intervention programme should build on the women economic empowerment strategies and tools successfully developed and used by the WEDGE Programme in Ethiopia. It will focus on those women economic empowerment strategies and tools on the traditional weaving activities in Addis Ababa and particularly on the informal weaving sector. The intervention programme will comprise the following: - Micro-finance support to improve access to finance for capital and recurrent expenditure; - Working conditions and management training to improve the productivity of the enterprises; - Access to better work spaces to improve the productivity of the enterprises.
