Strengthen human capacity to design and implement expanded and innovative responses to HIV/AIDS

The project "Strengthen human capacity to design and implement expanded and innovative responses to HIV/AIDS and the world of work in Brazil" has as its main objective to contribute to improving the capacity of developing strategies and workplace policies and programmes to enhance the national response regarding the implementation of the UNGASS Declaration of Commitment on HIV/AIDS and the recommendations of the ILO Code of practice on HIV/AIDS and the world of work. The project will mobilize national stakeholders and foster partnerships for the development of the following activities: - Translation and customization of material of HIV/AIDS and the workplace to the Brazilian reality; - Organization of a tripartite workshop to validate the material and ensure that best practices and lessons learned in Brazil were reflected in it; - Provision of technical assistance for the elaboration of specific proposals to implement workplace programmes and plans using the material. As a result, a country-level workplan will be formulated aiming at: a) expanding best practices to other large companies; b) supporting workplace programmes and plans for medium and small-scale enterprises; c) developing a strategy to reach out to small and micro companies; d) building up the role of trade unions to address HIV/AIDS in their regular programmes; e) strengthening the enforcement of national legislation and the application of the Code's recommendations in Brazil; f) empowering the capacity of civil society to promote the rights of workers with HIV/AIDS. Actions will contribute to strengthening and expanding country-level partnerships, including civil society and the private sector, as well to identifying, documenting, promoting and utilizing country-specific best practices.
