Building a Common Policy Understanding at Country Level

The immediate objective of the project is to formulate an employment-centred pro-poor growth strategy in Ethiopia and Madagascar. This will be done through focused country-level policy research and through participation of relevant stakeholders, in order to explore the range of policy and programme options to enhance the quality and quantity of employment. For each country, there will be at least three background studies covering: (i) the promotion of employment and decent work through alternative patterns of growth; (ii) labour market outcomes and policies; (iii) institutional reforms. In each of these subject areas, there will be full consideration of gender issues. Further, two national tripartite workshops will be held to disseminate the main findings of the respective country reports; and policy briefs will be issued on selected issues for constituents and donor partners.
