SAY-JUMP (South African Youth - Jobs for the unemployed and marginalized to escape from poverty)

The objective of the SAY-JUMP Programme is to contribute to the poverty alleviation efforts in South Africa through creating decent and sustainable jobs for poor and marginalized young women and men. For this purpose, SAY-JUMP will assist local communities in selected three provinces and districts in rural and urban areas, in collaboration with workers’ and employers’ organizations, to create 1,500 decent jobs and sustainable livelihoods (more than half will be for young women) through harmonizing the elements of three innovative approaches, i.e. decent work of the ILO, sustainable livelihoods and cooperative group entrepreneurship approach/enterprise development. The project strategy will be to create a broader partnership to implement priority projects, taking three steps: (i) skills training for young women and men on cooperative group entrepreneurship and SME development; (ii) poverty alleviation through community-based job creation schemes in rural and urban areas; and (iii) empowering young women for long-term livelihood security. The projects’ best practices will be used to improve policy environment to reduce poverty nationally.
