Trade Union Assistance to Tsunami-affected Communities: Making the Voice of the People Heard

The primary objective of the project is to help tsunami-affected people in Ampara District to rebuild their livelihoods through income-generating activities, skills development and vocational training and awareness-raising and advocacy on business development. The secondary objective of the project is to build on the existing strengths of trade unions by institutionalizing the informal economy workers in the affected communities through various organizing methods including formation of cooperatives and of SHGs. The project ensures that knowledge, methods and experiences are shared, leading to more strategies and best practices for trade unions in organizing the unorganized.
