Technical Support and Advisory Services to the Small-Scale Community Access Sub-component of the Roads Sector Programme Support in 2006

The overall objective of the small-scale community sub-component is to facilitate the establishment of a sustainable system for the improvement and maintenance of basic rural access that is not part of Zambia’s designated core road network. Such a system will ensure ownership by the beneficiary communities and will be sustained by adequate capacities at community level with minimum outside assistance. The immediate objective of the small-scale community access sub-component is to reduce transport bottlenecks on selected community access roads, tracks and footpaths in rural areas. This involves improvement of infrastructure to basic access design standards through spot improvements and installation of drainage structures to remove some of the main access bottlenecks with modest investments.
