Technical support and knowledge sharing of gender mainstreaming in ILO/NCP 2006-2010

The project contributes to, and supports, an integrated and consistent way of mainstreaming gender in and through the ILO/Netherlands Cooperation Programme (ILO/NCP). Through its role of offering technical support and knowledge sharing on gender mainstreaming, the project promotes the ILO’s mainstreamed strategy on gender equality and supports the implementation of the ILO Governing Body’s decision of March 2005 which calls for a systematic integration of gender equality in all ILO technical cooperation. In collaboration with the field-based projects implemented under the ILO/NCP, as well as the ILO’s global Gender Network, the project is in a strategic position to analyse, compare and advise on different approaches to integrating gender concerns in various components of decent work country programming. Project outcomes: (i) ILO constituents, staff and other partners involved in the implementation of the ILO/NCP have increased capacity to support poverty alleviation through designing and implementing gender-sensitive Decent Work Country Programmes; (ii) ILO constituents and staff have access to and apply an expanded knowledge base of gender equality strategies thereby contributing to the organization’s mainstreamed strategy on gender equality. Project outputs: (i) ILO staff members, constituents and other partners involved in the implementation of projects under the ILO/NCP have increased their capacity on gender mainstreaming and systematically integrate gender concerns in the planning, implementation and monitoring of the different project activities under the ILO/NCP 2006-10; (ii) The ILO knowledge base on gender equality has proven to be an effective tool for mainstreaming gender in the ILO/NCP through promoting the integration of the gender dimension in decent work country programming on areas related to youth employment; fighting bonded labour and exploitative child labour; promoting basic education; and advancing social dialogue; (iii) Networking for information and knowledge sharing between and amongst ILO sectors and the field structure proven to be an effective way for promoting the implementation of the ILO’s mainstreamed strategy on gender equality in decent work country programming.
