Activating Media in Combating Worst Forms of Child Labour- Phase II

Phase I of the Activating Media to Combat Child Labour in Pakistan Project ended on 31 December 2005. An independent evaluation of Phase I was carried out in September 2005 and a recommendation was made for the continuation of the project. Pursuant to the recommendation of the evaluation, the ILO facilitated the formulation of the Phase II project document. On 25 February 2006, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting issued a letter (even number F.No.2(4)2006-Pub) expressing commitment to continued support, based on which the same project with a broader scope and increased number of activities has entered Phase II for the next three years, funded by the Government of Norway. The Phase II project has four substantive components including: social mobilization through mass awareness-raising; capacity building of media personnel; establishing a media network/coalition; institutionalization for project sustainability. In addition the project has an inbuilt independent media monitoring mechanism called "Media Watch".
