EEOW, Cambodia and Viet Nam (phase II)
The ILO/Japan Regional Programme on the Expansion of Employment Opportunities for Women (EEOW) aims at contributing to national efforts in enhancing the socio-economic status of women and promotion of gender equality and social justice in poverty alleviation and employment promotion policies and programmes. EEOW was first launched in Indonesia and Nepal in 1997, followed by Thailand in 2000, and EEOW Cambodia and Vietnam Chapters started in 2001 and 2002, respectively. EEOW Cambodia and Vietnam completed the first phase of the project at the end of 2006, and the second phase started in January 2007 for a duration of 20 months. Main activities include direct action programmes targeting women and their families in poverty to improve their economic and social status in the condition of decent work, capacity building of relevant government and non-governmental organizations in designing, implementing and coordinating policies and programmes to promote gender equality in the world of work, and networking and policy advocacy concerning women’s employment promotion and empowerment based on the experience and good practices garnered from the EEOW action programmes.
