Local Socio-Economic Recovery in war-affected areas in South Lebanon
Following the Lebanese Government requested assistance from the UN System this project delivers a unique multidisciplinary approach, jointly implemented by the International Labour Organization (ILO), Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) , United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), Economic and Social Comimission for Western Asia (ESCWA) and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to restoring livelihoods through income generation and restoring small and medium scale business entities with a specific target on the most disadvantaged. The project aims at both rapidly implementing socio-economic recovery activities and enhancing the capacities of institutions at the community level in identifying, prioritizing and implementing socio-economic activities in an autonomous manner. This project will also build the capacities of municipalities to play a leading facilitative role in the development of strategically planned, locally-driven, partnership approaches to rebuilding livelihoods. To sustain this capacity, the project will build on the existing UNDP ART Gold Regional and Municipal Working Groups and further capacitate the local stakeholders to network with similar entities both at sub-regional and regional level.
