Discrimination of women at the workplace in Central and Eastern Europe and the CIS (phase II)

The general aim of establishing and supporting a gender network is to promote a gender-specific policy within the trade unions in Central and Eastern Europe. This will help in preventing the deterioration of the work and income position of women in these countries, and in ensuring that the problems, needs and priorities of women are on the agenda of trade unions and of other organisations within civil society that support workers’ rights. The Project contributes to the creation of the Pan-European Regional Council (PERC) Women's Committee, a new framework of women’s activities and a new policy-making structure. Such a Europe-wide women’s committee will enable implementation of the PERC aims and objectives. The creation of PERC and the future creation of the PERC Women’s Committee - foreseen in October 2008 - builds on the achievements of previous projects. It will add a new dimension, but also new capacity needs, to the organisations will have direct representation in the PERC Women’s committee. The creation of the committee and the support in its first steps will be part of the output of the Project. The issue of sustainability of the Project after its completing becomes more realistic, as a viable and operating structure will be established.
