Strengthening the evidence base on child labour through expanded data collection, data analysis, and research-based global reports

Global Research Project 2008 INT/08/93/USA The project will involve catalytic support to national child labour surveys in five ILO Member States, namely, Albania, Lao PDR, Mauritania, Paraguay and Uganda, with a view to help both strengthen national statistical information on CL and build national capacity in regular child labour data generation and utilization. The project will also support the development and application of new research tools for generating information on worst forms of child labour. Forced child labour, commercial sexual exploitation of children (CSEC) and child trafficking, three of the worst forms identified for priority action by ILO Convention No. 182, will be particularly emphasized in this context. Support to data collection will be accompanied by increased efforts to ensure that child labour information is effectively disseminated, and contributes to global awareness and policy debate on child labour. A new pilot World Report on Child Labour will be introduced in this context, in addition to revised Global Child Labour Estimates and a new trend analysis. Multi-country research on corporate social responsibility will be also supported as part of efforts to promote debate on child labour policy issues.
