Promotion of full employment and decent work in a period of intense globalization: Employment policy challenges in a period of economic crisis
In response to the 2008/9 economic crisis, the project proposes to provide justifications for a greater "policy space" in a long-run framework, to evaluate the policy responses undertaken to the current economic crisis and the availability of such space, to identify any relevant constraints on the policy space available, and to identify "best practices". DEVELOPMENT OBJECTIVE/ EXPECTED IMPACT Policy makers are provided with a solid empirical basis and enhanced capacity to effectively address the employment and labour market effects of externally generated economic shocks. IMMEDIATE OBJECTIVES/ PROJECT OUTCOMES 1. In-depth knowledge base is developed on country’s vulnerability to external volatility, transmission mechanism of external shocks to the labour markets, and long-run vulnerability of working age population to temporary shocks. 2. Creation of policy space for long-term development of labour market institutions is solidly justified (in the countries covered) from the point of view of all stakeholders and players in the policymaking arena.
