Promotion of the Maritime Labour Convention
This project to promote the ILO Maritime Labour Convention, 2006 will have a four-fold focus. First, the project will aim to increase ratification and effective implementation of the MLC,2006 in particular in countries with scarce capacity. Secondly, the project will strengthen capacity for enforcement and compliance with MLC, 2006 requirements, with a particular focus on capacity-building of maritime labour inspectors. Thirdly, the project will work towards increased awareness and capacity to assess risks and comply with the health, safety and accident prevention provisions of the MLC, 2006. Finally, it is the aim of the project to increase global awareness and capacity to understand and implement the social security requirements of the MLC, 2006. The project will have a budget of USD 992,706 and will finish in December 2011.
