Strengthening the world of work response on HIV/AIDS
The proposed project will support the target countries in developing comprehensive programmes to address high risk populations and vulnerable workers and their families, as well as the capacity gaps in the national AIDS response. The ultimate beneficiaries that will directly gain from the project, and hence reduce their risk to HIV infection, will be workers and employers in the selected countries, including their families. The project will build the capacity of national institutions and organizations to respond to HIV/AIDS and will support those actors to build networks and structures to channel this response to the ultimate beneficiaries. This entails making sure that compliance and enforcement systems of policy and legal frameworks on HIV/AIDS are in place. The proposed project will contribute to the reduction of HIV incidence among individuals (men and women) through an effective world of work response. The outcomes of the project will be: 1. A comprehensive sectoral response is in place to scale up HIV/AIDS programmes in selected countries and is also integrated in the overall national response; 2. Improved legal and policy compliance to ensure the application of the policy and legal frameworks is in place to protect the rights of affected male and female workers and their families; 3. Effective interventions addressing prevention and impact mitigation in the formal and informal economy are designed and implemented in selected countries.
