Promotion of Youth Employment in Kiribati

Improving decent and productive employment opportunities for youth is a priority that needs to be addressed timely and effectively in Kiribati in order to ensure the full utilization of the country’s economic potential, while fostering both sound economic development and social stability. The Government of Kiribati has taken significant steps to promoting policies and reform specifically targeting strategies to promote wage and self employment for youth. Under this initiative two ILO modalities have been identified, namely: Start and Improve Your Business (SIYB) - a long-standing enterprise training programme of ILO, and the Community-based Training for Rural Economic Empowerment (CB-TREE) - an ILO integrated community-based economic empowerment approach. The implementation will include the local trainers and support institutions together with other stake holders to ensure sustainability and continuity of activities by providing post training support and guidance.
