Building Capacities on Indigenous and Tribal Peoples' Issues in Bangladesh: Rights and Good Practices
Project Summary : The project promotes the rights of indigenous peoples in Bangladesh through piloting a targeted capacity building and advocacy initiative based primarily on the principles of ILO Conventions (C.107, C.169, and C.111) and other instruments relevant to Indigenous and Tribal Peoples. The project aims to provide capacity-building and assistance at the national level to ensure the integration of indigenous peoples’ rights in the national legal and policy environment, in line with the aspirations outlined in the Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper (PRSP) II, the Chittagong Hill Tracts Peace Accord and international standards on indigenous and tribal peoples. It will also include capacity building and advocacy activities related to implementation of indigenous peoples rights at the grassroots level. A key element in both the process and outcome of the project is the development of mechanisms and spaces for dialogue and coordination between government institutions and indigenous and tribal peoples of the country.
