Ethiopia - Strengthening the world of work response on HIV/AIDS - AIDS Capacity building and Technical Support (ACTS)
Executive Summary Strengthening the world of work response on HIV/AIDS in Ethiopia is part the global OPEC supported ILO/AIDS project targeting 10 countries including Ethiopia. The project is expected help scale up/strengthen workplace responses in the country to address high risk populations and vulnerable workers and their families, as well as the capacity gaps in the national AIDS response. The ultimate beneficiaries that will directly gain from the project, and hence reduce their risk to HIV infection, will be workers and employers in the selected sectors and regions, including their families. The project has a total budget of 240,000 USD for two years. With a development objective of contributing to the reduction of HIV incidence among individuals (men and women) through an effective world of work response in the country, this project has four expected outcomes: 1. Tripartite and “tripartite plus” organization capacities built to effectively promote and also mobilize resources for HIV/AIDS in the world of work response in the country 2. A comprehensive sectoral response is in place in 2 high risk sectors to scale up the HIV/AIDS programs in the workplace 3. Existing workplace responses of HIV in sectors at national sustained and scaled up 4. The world of work incorporated as an important part of the overall regional comprehensive HIV responses in 2 regional states The project will be integrated to one of the country program priority of the Decent Work Country Program (DWCP) that focuses on HIV/AIDS with specific areas of activities including capacity building and technical assistance to tripartite organizations workplace policies, programmes and code of practice; mitigating HIV/AIDS in MSEs and cooperatives as well as developing a sectoral strategy to effectively respond to the epidemic.
