Ensuring food security and nutrition for children 0-24 months in the Philippines

The United Nations Country Team (UNCT) in the Philippines will launch a three-year-programme to create an enabling environment where breastfeeding and appropriate complementary feeding are practiced, promoted, supported and protected by communities and the nation as a whole. This UN joint programme will contribute to the on-going Philippine efforts to achieve the Millennium Development Goals and to improve breastfeeding and complementary feeding practices for children 0-24 months of age. This three-year programme is expected to 1) increase exclusive breastfeeding rates in the project areas by 20% annually, 2) reduce the prevalence of under nutrition by at least 3% by 2011, and 3) improve the capacities of national and local governments and stakeholders to promote and implement policies and programmes on Infant and Young Child Feeding. ILO will contribute to the programme objectives through workplace interventions in both formal and informal sector with ILO tripartite constituents. ILO will also support the implementation of the national family welfare program.
