Operationalising Disaster Reduction into Early Recovery and Post-Disaster Transition to Development
The project aims to strengthen operational recovery procedures with regard to the integration of disaster risk reduction and climate resilience in China and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). During 1 December 2009 and 31 May 2010, the International Labour Organization’s Programme on Crisis Response and Reconstruction shall work in close collaboration with the United Nations International Strategy for Disaster Reduction Secretariat and the International Recovery Platform Secretariat, to define lessons learned and good practices for integrating disaster risk reduction with specific reference to livelihood recovery (employment creation and income generation) and local economic deveopment programmes in post disaster operations and the acceleration of the transition from relief to recovery – targeting donor policies and practices. The project aims to enhance the capacity of selected officials from the two countries, ASEAN and the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) through training on ‘Disaster risk reduction within the framework of sustainable local development’, and ‘Green Jobs: linking climate change and the world of work’ in close collaboration with the International Training Centre of the ILO in Turin, Italy.
