Protecting migrants and combatting trafficking: Building an information and knowledge base for policy support on international migration in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) States

The project will focus on examining the living and working conditions of migrant workers in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries (GCC) and is at the expressed interest of the ILO member States in the region to reform the current labour administration procedures. The aim is to better manage the admission and work of temporary expatriate contractual labour in the country (the official term employed by the GCC countries for migrant workers) and assist the governments in identifying crucial areas of policy intervention for better governance of labour migration. The avowed objective is that it would lead to developing institutional capacity, reforming legislation governing migratory movements, developing national regulatory frameworks on migration, strengthening social dialogue and supporting efforts towards maximizing the benefits of labour migration for all (i.e. the countries of origin and destination, the employers and migrant workers).
