Joint Programme on Youth Employment and Empowerment
The programme seeks to promote youth employment and employability by laying the foundations for sustainable interventions across different sectors through a holistic approach. Different tools and methodologies of ILO, FAO and UNICEF are to be integrated, adapted and made available for the creation of opportunities for productive employment and decent work. Self-employment as a solution for underemployment among youth, often lacking skills and job opportunities as salaried workers, is an envisaged solution. The very distinctive nature of the approach is the capacity to intervene both on youth employment and empowerment at the same time, keeping the decent work framework as the reference structure. While business-oriented activities are the core of the intervention, empowerment activities, aiming at making the youth aware of their rights and duties, as well as their capacity to reduce their vulnerability to HIV and AIDS for example.
