Promotion of Alternative Livelihoods for the Tsunami affected Families of Southern India
As per the joint UN Initiative to support in the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the Tsunami affected families in Southern India, the ILO/UNDP project on Alternative Livelihoods was implemented during 1 January 2006 to 31 December 2008. The current project is envisaged to charge the residual and follow up activities already carried out during 2009 with ILO-Subregional Office for South Asia (SRO), New Delhi) resources and also to carry out some more activities considered critical during the year 2010. Out of the total funds of $43, 019 the amount of $29,108.36 is the reimbursement of 3% of the total money spent towards the "reimbursement of direct cost" incurred by the ILO for the project implementation as per the MOU between the ILO and UNDP and the amount of $13,911 is the unspent balance in the project transferred to ILO by UNDP. The ILO activities carried out and services provided during 2006-2008 were by way of providing management, technical and programming support mainly. Several technical support missions were carried out to the project areas by the ILO Specialists. The management also participated in a number of strategy planning meetings. The SRO programming staff was involved in the implementation of the project on a day-to-day basis. In anticipation of being able to use the funds provided by the UNDP, the SRO-New Delhi carried out an internal evaluation of the Alternative Livelihoods Project in March-April 2009 by engaging an external consultant and two support persons on External Collaboration Contracts. Further, the SRO-New Delhi had provided its publications and has also ordered for SIYB manuals from the SIYB Association of Sri Lanka for entrepreneurship development activities envisaged to be carried out in 2010. The promotion of SIYB activities with the ILO-trained Training Service Providers is proposed to be carried out during the year 2010.
