The WoW effectively responds to HIV and AIDS through Recommendation 200 with emphasis on social protection
The ILO promotes the development of national policy and related legal frameworks as well as strengthening knowledge and skills in HIV prevention, AIDS support in the context of social protection in the world of work. The emphasis is on capacity development of government ministries, employers organizations and workers’ trade unions; promotion of gender equality and non-discrimination; knowledge sharing and social partnership enhancement at country and international levels. Strategically, the proposal contributes to Outcome 8 through the three pillars: 1) Support the development of national tripartite workplace policies. 2) Strengthen capacity of the tripartite constituents to proactively respond to the HIV and TB epidemics. 3) Enhance the Office’s knowledge basis, with particular reference to prevention and impact mitigation through social protection. Activities will be carried out in close collaboration with employers’ and workers’ organizations and labour administration and labour inspection as well as with associations of people living with HIV to ensure that views and needs of the tripartite-plus constituents are fully reflected. In addition, due consideration will be given to mitigate discrimination and the disproportionate impact of HIV, AIDS and HIV-TB burden on women.
