Bangladesh National Skills Survey
In Bangladesh, consolidated information on the full range of public and private training providers and the programs they deliver is not readily available, limiting the ability of industry, government and the public to understand the supply of skills. There is also a lack of clear data on skills demand from industry. As a result there is a mismatch between skills supply and demand. The TVET reform project has completed a proposal for a national skills data system and will contract a firm to develop the database framework in 2010. However; there are no funds set aside to populate the system and undertake the data collection and analysis to produce a major national report on the skills supply-demand situation in the country. The proposed project will work with key stakeholders including the NSDC Secretariat data cell; the Bangladesh Technical Education Board (BTEB); Industry Skill Councils (ISC); and other key industry bodies and government agencies. The proposed project will: 1. work with the NSDC Secretariat to coordinate data collection, analyse supply-demand gaps and develop a national summary of the supply and demand for skills that reflects data from both genders; 2. work with key industry bodies to collect demand side data on skills and occupations in demand in the medium and long term; 3. work with key government agencies to collect supply side data on the nature and scope of expected skills supply in the medium and long term; 4. build the capacity of key organisations with key data roles for the future operation of the Bangladesh TVET and skills data system. The project will be implemented in four stages over one year and will start in October 2010.
