Promoting Freedom of Association and the Right to Collective Bargaining
This project works at the regional level in Africa and at the country level in China and Zimbabwe and reflects the lessons learned from the similar programme funded by the Norwegian government in 2009-2010: namely that it is important to help governments maintain a rights-based approach to development by ensuing an accurate assessment of the benchmarks and gaps of Freedom of Association, on the basis of relevant standards and principles, as well as to build the tripartite capacity to take a promotional approach aimed at ensuring the effective respect and implementation of these principles and rights. Given the short duration of the project, activities will mainly target policy and decision makers from the tripartite constituents. Experience, impact and unresolved challenges will be carefully documented at the end of the project and would be the basis for future work by the ILO on these rights and in these countries.
