Reducing HIV vulnerability of MSM in Sauna, BKK, Thailand
Executive Summary This UNAIDS PAF project is executed by ILO in collaboration with UNESCO and UNDP. The project aims to reduce HIV vulnerabilities of MSM in saunas of Bangkok, Thailand which will involve policy development, social dialogue and workplace HIV preventive education. Ten saunas for MSM will be the target in collaboration with the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration including survey of MSM saunda clients’ condom and lubricant use behaviour, their knowledge, attitudes and behaviours relating to safer sex. It will also establish a working agreement with BMA, Ministry of Labour, Bangkok metropolitan police, saunas and NGOs for MSM through social dialogue. The HIV education will utilize tools developed by ILO and UNESCO. The expected outcome of the project is improved enabling environment for HIV work at saunas, more comprehensive workplace BCC interventions being undertaken in targeted MSM saunas in BKK, as well as HIV related risks and vulnerabilities reduced for BKK sauna workers and clients. Otuputs will include a MoU between ILO, UNESCO, 10 MSM saunas and BMA, written guidelines on hygiene, safety and HIV prevention in workplace, needs assessment of saunas for MSM, survey on appropriate methods to reach MSM at saunas, survey on KAB of MSM sauna clients and workers, tailored HIV education package for MSM in saunas and new condom and lubricant infrastructure established.
