Gender Mainstreaming in Phase I of the ILO Norway Partnership Agreement
Following on from the activities undertaken under different phases of the Norway/ILO Partnership throughout 2008-2011, this GMP project will focus on ensuring that the work of the first phase of the Norway/ILO Partnership Agreement 2012-13 in Indonesia is gender mainstreamed: i.e. that “women’s as well as men’s concerns form an integral dimension of the design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation” of the ILO’s work in Indonesia, so that “women and men benefit equally and inequality is not perpetuated.” Under the Norway/ILO PA, GENDER will work with ILO colleagues and constituents in Indonesia to ensure that work being undertaken in the following areas is gender mainstreamed: • Labour administration • Promotion of freedom of association Indonesia has ratified the Discrimination (Employment and Occupation) Convention, 1958 (No. 111), and Equal Remuneration Convention, 1951 (No. 100), and it is within this context that the work to promote gender equality in the workplace in the country is manifest. In this context the project will work to ensure that compliance with Equal Pay and combating discrimination are central to labour inspection methodologies in Indonesia. Meanwhile as the vast majority of domestic workers in Indonesia are women, promoting their right to freedom of association may be considered a gender-specific action aimed at empowering women workers.
