Work Plan for ILO's response to HIV/AIDS in the workplace in China

As PAF project funded by UNAIDS, the ILO project focused on and resulted in: Development of a tripartite HIV/AIDS workplace policy in Guangdong Province; Strengthened role of the labour and social security department, trade unions, employers’ organizations and enterprises in the fight against HIV/AIDS Obtained experiences from the pilot work in terms of setting workplace policy on HIV/AIDS prevention and promoting behavioural change communication programmes in the workplace. Improved knowledge of HIV/AIDS and life skills for the migrant workers. Main activities included: Formulating and finalizing TORs and holding of the task force meeting (held in February 2006). The task force included: Department of Labour and Social Security, Department of Health, Local Federation of Trade Unions, Local Enterprise Confederation, people living with HIV/AIDS and other related agencies;. Conducting mapping exercise and preparing reports both in Chinese and English; Holding Tripartite Workshop on HIV/AIDS and the Workplace; Drafting and circulating workplace policy among stakeholders; Holding tripartite policy press release around World AIDS Day 2006; Selection of the pilot enterprise and launching of the Pilot Education and Training Programme in the enterprise; Enterprise HIV/AIDS workplace policy formulation and implementation; Education and training in the pilot construction sites; Capacity building for the tripartite partners; Conducting education and training among workers in Guangzhou Economic Development Area (EDA); HIV/AIDS workplace policy formulation and release in EDA; Holding of tripartite workshop to sum up the experience of the programme, and discussing the follow-up issues; Compilation and printing of the proceedings of the workshop and good practice from the programme by April 2007.
