Improving social protection for People Living with HIV (PLHIV) in Sri Lanka by building capacity and strengthening networks of PLHIV NGOs

1) In partnership with the MoL & LR , Eemployers’ Federation of Ceylon and trade unions, share the Nation Policy on HIV and AIDS and the World of Work and the findings of the ILO/HIV and social protection study with key stakeholders including social security policy makers, insurance company administrators, employers’ organizations, trade unions, PLHIV NGOs, National STD/AIDS Control Programme and other organizations assisting PLHIV with the aim to jointly develop a strategic action plan for social protection of PLHIV 2) Facilitate trade unions to partner with private enterprises to advocate for the removal of the PLHIV exclusion clause in insurance schemes 3) Provide technical advice to private enterprises for negotiation with their health insurance carriers to remove PLHIV exclusion clause in their insurance policy. (reference the study on Public, Private, National and Local Schemes of HIV sensitive Social Protection Mechanisms contributing to reducing HIV and TB Vulnerabilities) 4) Strengthen capacity of 3 PLHIV NGOs to become social protection literate in terms of knowing what is offered, the rights and entitlements of PLHIV members, the rules and regulations concerning access to available social protection schemes, how PLHIV could effectively access them and to assist PLHIV to access decent jobs 5) Develop a sustainability strategy to support PLHIV to improve their income and social security
