The European Social Model along the economic crisis and austerity policies. Developments, effects and policy issues

The projet will consist in: - Providing a national assessment of major changes/reforms in the main elements of the European Social Model (ESM); providing an assessment of their implications in the social, economic and political spheres. - Carrying out case studies of specific reforms/changes in the various elements of the ESM. - Holding a discussion of policy issues to be addressed. This project will contribute to many of the ILO outcomes in the areas of working conditions and social dialogue. The lessons drawn from this project on Europe will be of direct use for countries in Central and Eastern Europe, Central Asia and others. Direct links will be built to Country Programme Objectives' such as the ones of Russia, Tajikistan, Armenia, Ukraine, etc. The findings on the ESM are also directly relevant for all countries outside Europe, as indicated in different ILO documents. Since this project proposes to address the different elements of the ESM, it will help to achieve many of ILO outcomes, and in particular Outcome 5 on working conditions, but also Outcome 12 (as well as 9, 10 and 14) on social dialogue, 13 on decent work, and also the more encompassing Outcome 19 on policy coherence.
