Improved Social Protection through reduction of Child Labour in Malawi

The ILO, supported by USDOL funding, is implementing a project of support to the National Action Plan to Combat Child Labour in four districts of Malawi (Lilongwe, Mizamba, Mulanje and Kasungu Districts), since September 2009. The ILO, working through various programmes and projects, is focused on contributing to give shape to the “Decent Work Agenda” in Malawi, through ‘Capacity Building’ in such varied areas as Employment, Skills Training, Labour Issues, as well as Women and Child Rights. This USDOL supported project in Malawi is an umbrella project on child labour issues, in close collaboration with other ILO Projects, particularly the JTI, OUF supported Projects, are well positioned to develop effective strategies to combat child labour and contribute to UNDAF Outcome 2.4. “Boys and Girls of school-going age in selected low performing districts enrol, are retained, learn, and complete basic education by 2016.” With funding from the OUF the project “Improved social protection through the reduction of child labour in Malawi" ILO intends to support the existing project achieve their objectives.
