ILO/Japan Regional Skills project

The proposed theme for the ILO/Japan Skills Programme for 2013-14 (2013 Programme) is designed to respond to the need to improve the rural development through skills provisions, especially through improving the availability and accessibility of skills development in assisting rural communities to acquire and upgrade technologies; serve local market, improve entrepreneurship, gain access to microfinance schemes, improve agricultural productivity and access to markets as well as developing off-farm activities, all of which will supplement incomes. Coordinated efforts are needed to develop an integrated approach that improves access to relevant, good quality education and training to all rural women and men. Through the 2013 Programme, it is envisioned that the participating countries will work towards achieving productive employment and decent work for the rural population through improving the rural population’s access to skills trainings, initiating capacity building and sharing of tools and experiences among countries. Efforts will be made to complement proposed activities with the recommendations generated from the 101st Session of the International Labour Conference’s: skills for improved productivity, employment growth and development
