Advancing Disabled Women’s Access to Rights in Employment (AWARE)

This proposal will address the multiple forms of discrimination that women with disabilities may face in employment on account of their disability and their sex by developing a practical guide to the inclusion of women with disabilities in the world of work. Building on existing ILO guides dealing with the inclusion of women with disabilities in vocational training programmes and in entrepreneurship development programmes, and consulting with representatives of women with disabilities, the guide will highlight with good practice examples the positive contributions that women with disabilities can make in the workplace, if appropriate measures are put in place; describe legal and policy frameworks that facilitate participation (citing practical comparative texts); and highlight measures that have been shown to be effective in different countries in facilitating the employment of women with disabilities.
