HIV/AIDS Peer Education Sustainability Pilot
ALAFA has developed and implemented a successful peer education approach to HIV prevention in the apparel and textile industry of Lesotho. Following ALAFA’s closure the continuity of such programming is vital to ensure workers continue to be provided with information, support and a conduit into testing and care and treatment. The primary objective to establish factory in-house PE coordination and HIV prevention training structures that can be largely implemented and maintained through personnel capacity developed within the factory and the factory’s own finances. Objective: To ensure continuity of Peer Education–based HIV Prevention programming in the apparel and textile industry of Lesotho past the closure of ALAFA with an initial focus on selected factories under the Better Work Lesotho program. • To transfer programme-specific assets and institutional knowledge from ALAFA to Better Work Lesotho • To transition peer education approach in the factories to Better Work oversight and development • To facilitate revitalization and continuity of peer education programming • To build on the relationships developed and maintain the progress made in education levels and behavior change within this most at risk population • To develop strategies towards increased factory commitment to and ownership of prevention activities.
