Port Work Development Program in Bulk Terminals - Phase 2
The ILO's Portworker Development Programme in Container Terminals (PDP) has successfully contributed to the goal of creating greater opportunities for workers to obtain decent work and to ensure their safety, health and welfare. Since its launch in 1989, it was adopted by more than 70 organizations and major terminals and translated into 9 additional languages. In continuation and expansion of this aim into the bulk terminals, the ILO launched the Phase 1 of the Portworker Development Program in Bulk Terminals project (GLO/13/30/ROK) in 2014. Its main objective is to enable governments and port authorities of developing countries to establish effective and systematic portworker training schemes for the portworkers working in the bulk terminals. The Phase 1 will cover three major bulk cargoes, namely iron core, coal and fertilizer. In Phase 2, the focus will be upon other 2 major cargoes, grain and bauxite / alumina. In addition, it will also include the translation of those products in Phase 1 and Phase 2 into the language of Korea, the donor country.
