Promoting Decent Work on Oil Palm Plantations in Indonesia

The overall objective of the project is to promote sustainable rural livelihoods through decent work conditions and opportunities for workers on Indonesia’s oil palm plantations. The project’s main goal is to increase the capacity of national, provincial and local governments, workers’ and employers’ organizations to address employment and labour-related challenges in the oil palm plantations sector. The active involvement of all relevant partners and stakeholders in the design, implementation and monitoring of measures to promote decent work on plantations will help foster a more coordinated and holistic approach and will strengthen the impact and ensure the sustainability of project interventions. Given the prevalence of problems of inter-sectoral and inter-ministerial coordination in many developing countries, the project will seek to ensure effective coordination and cooperation with and across relevant Ministries and government departments, and with economic, social and judicial partners, universities and research centres.
