Scaling up the VCT @ Work Initiative in Mozambique

Notwithstanding considerable progress to scale up an effective response to HIV, still 19 million of the 35 million people living with HIV do not know that they have the virus. This is particularly true in Sub-Saharan Africa, where only 45% of people living with HIV know their HIV status. In Mozambique, the low level of HIV testing among the youth population is compounded by the low levels of comprehensive knowledge, persisting stigma and discrimination and relatively higher prevalence among young women. This project addresses the underlying causes of low testing uptake among young people, targeting young women and men workers in the formal and informal economy. The project contributes to the reduction of HIV infections among young women and men workers in Mozambique, in line with the National Strategic Plan on HIV and AIDS 2015-2019, with the following objectives: 1. Young women and men workers’ knowledge and agency about their rights vis-à-vis HIV and gender enhanced 2. Increased testing uptake among young women and men workers including informal workers
