UNSSC-ILO Tutored online course in “Social Protection for Sustainable Development"

Background Over the next fifteen years, development activities in countries across the world will be guided by a new agenda adopted in 2015 that has set out to address the 5Ps: People, Planet, Prosperity, Peace and Partnership. The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) lay out a set of key development objectives for developed and developing countries alike to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure prosperity for all. Countries are now tasked with aligning national development plans to the SDG framework and carrying out the implementation of those plans, with support from the ensemble of UN development agencies. A tutored online course: Social Protection for Sustainable Development Since 2009, the International Labour Office (ILO) has led the UN’s Social Protection Floor Initiative (SPF-I) inaugurated by the UN Chief Executives Board as a means to coordinate the organization’s many technical assistance offerings in the area of social protection. Today, the SPF-I proposes an approach based on more than six years of concrete experience in working as One UN on social protection issues. Good practices from in-country collaborations have been documented in a series of Issues Briefs and national and regional working groups serve to share experiences and kick-start new collaborations in many regions around the world. ,
