Promoting Fundamental principles and rights at work in electronics supply chains
The research to be supported by the Government of the Netherlands, will deal essentially with country-level activities and its primary objective is to produce a comprehensive study on how the various production processes, related to Electronics, function and the potential use of child labour and forced labour in upstream and downstream operations. A deeper understanding of the processes that underlie the Electronics supply chain is imperative and therefore, the major objective is to conduct research from procurement of raw material to the manufacture of final products. It is intended that the research into would focus on the rudiments of production to highlight production subdivisions where the exploitation of children, forced labour of workers and lack of representation is most pronounced and how these might be tackled in practice. In this regard, two countries will be identified; one to cover upstream mining of ore (most probably DRC in Africa) and the other dealing with downstream manufacture (In Asia but yet to be identified).
