Increased progress in attaining SDGs though the promotion of Decent Work and inclusive economic growth in rural and urban areas in Azerbaijan

This project focuses on the implementation of actions aimed at strengthening the capacity of ILO constituents in Azerbaijan to support processes towards making significant progress in attaining the SDGs through the promotion of decent work and inclusive economic growth in rural and urban areas. It prioritises action on SDG accelerators, in particular youth employment and formalization, as identified by the Government with ILO support. The project will enable Azerbaijani constituents to actively engage in collaborative mechanisms and partnerships with national and international actors so as to improve coordination and coherence of the activities aimed at achieving the SDGs through the following set of actions: i) social dialogue to improve coordination of actions and policies among social partners and government institutions; ii) policy-oriented research and exchange of knowledge and international good practices for effective implementation of policies and strategies; iii) technical support to advance progress on the selected decent work accelerators, specifically on economic diversification, youth employment, SME competitiveness and sustainability; and iv) decent work advocacy through the inclusion of decent work in national development strategies and programmes and relevant policies at sub-regional and multilateral levels. This project contributes to the country’s efforts to advance towards the attainment of SDG targets 8.2 (Achieve higher level of economic productivity through diversification, technological upgrading and innovation, including through a focus on high-value added and labour-intensive sectors) and 8.3 (Promote development-oriented policies that support productive activities, decent job creation, entrepreneurship, creativity and innovation,, and encourage the formalization and growth of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises, including through access to financial services).
