Sustaining strengthened national capacities to improve ILS compliance and reporting in El Salvador & Guatemala
El Salvador - The project aims to support the promotion and application of the ILO Fundamental and Governance Conventions in the country. The project focuses on consolidating the institutional capacity of the Government to effectively enforce labour laws, guarantee fundamental rights at work, enhance social dialogue and fulfil its reporting obligations. Additionally, the intervention assists in addressing comments made by the ILO supervisory bodies with respect to discrimination (strengthening national tripartite capacities against discrimination at work) and in taking the necessary measures for the effective application of the Freedom of Association and Protection of the Right to Organise Convention, 1948 (No. 87) and the Right to Organise and Collective Bargaining Convention, 1949 (No. 98). Guatemala - The project aims to support the promotion and application of ILO fundamental conventions and human rights in Guatemala by assisting the country in strengthening the institutional capacity of the Government to effectively enforce labour laws, guarantee fundamental rights at work, enhance social dialogue and assist the country to fulfil its reporting obligations. With a view to addressing comments made by the ILO supervisory bodies, the intervention focuses on the development of a roadmap for the elimination of child labour, a better application of Freedom of Association and Protection of the Right to Organize Convention, 1948 (No. 87) and Right to Organize and Collective Bargaining Convention, 1949 (No. 98), the development of prevention and coordination mechanisms against human trafficking and forced labour, the design of policies for the elimination of discrimination at work especially for the most vulnerable workers and the strengthening of capacities of the Government to ratify and apply international labour standards.
