Extending access to HIV prevention, testing and referral for treatment program in workplace and for vulnerable population
UNAIDS estimates there were 620.000 people living with HIV in Indonesia, with 48.000 new HIV infections in 2016. Ministry of Health reported that over 72% of AIDS cases detected until March 2017 are among people aged 20-49 years old. This data show an urgent need to expand programme coverage to working populations focusing both HIV knowledge and “know your status promotion activities. The ILO-UNAIDS joint initiative VCT@Work has been implemented in Indonesia since December 2013 and made notable awareness of the workers, and private sector partners, facilitating HIV Counselling and Testing and creating linkages with treatment and care support for workers tested HIV positive. Workers are likely to undergo HCT when their employers take steps to protect employment rights and ensure confidentiality and non-discrimination for people with the virus. Commitments were made by large and state owned enterprises, such as Pertamina, PGN and Pelindo, to lead by example in implementing the initiative in Indonesia. The two objectives of the project are: To deliver HIV prevention, testing and referral to treatment services through private sector; and to increase access People Living with HIV and other Key Affected Populations to social protection system.
