ILO – Unified Budget Results Accountability Framework (2018–19) - Nigeria Country Project
According to the Centre for the Control of Disease (CDC), HIV is the 3rd leading cause of death, after malaria and lower respiratory infections. Nigeria’s HIV epidemic is described as generalized (above 1% prevalence among ANC attendees), with wide variation of prevalence is in the North Western Zone (2.1%). There are also differences between and within urban within the country. Approximately 4.1 million out of the estimated 180 million Nigerians live with HIV and AIDS making Nigeria the country with the second highest HIV burden in the world. Immediate action needs to be taken towards closing the treatment gap by facilitating access to health services and scaling up of HCT, in the same time ensuring wider coverage of basic health services for all and scaling up social protection including health insurance. The project has two clear objectives: increased HIV testing and counselling services among women and men workers; and strengthened HIV-sensitive social protection programmes for vulnerable workers
