Strengthening world of work response to HIV and AIDS in India
It is estimated that 2.1 million people were living with HIV in India in 2015. HIV epidemic in India is concentrated and diverse in intensity among different populations in different states. 94% of PLHIV are from 15 states of the Union. These states are home of the majority of key populations and pregnant women living with HIV and where the majority of AIDS related deaths occur. The project is linked to Outcome 3: Creating and extending social protection floors for the biennium 2018-19. It will contribute to the implementation of the DWCP 2018-2022 that is being finalized with inputs from the constituents. During the current biennium, the CO-Delhi will continue to engage with the Central Government as well as selected state governments, employers and workers organizations in India in their efforts in building, expanding, extending or reorienting their social protection systems including promoting rights of workers living with HIV, their access to social security programmes and engaging the constituents for implementing rights based health and HIV programme in selected state(s). The ILO will make specific contributions to fill the testing gap by promoting Voluntary Counselling and Testing (VCT@Work) in some key sectors (Hospitality, Textiles, Agriculture and mining) and also promote a Stigma free work environment, with a focus on health care workplaces by identifying and promoting non-discriminatory practices against those affected by HIV.
