Enforcement and Protection of workers’ labour rights in Costa Rica

The project will strengthen the capability of the social partners and the government to deal with the fulfilment of labour rights in Costa Rica, particularly with regard to the new challenges that the Labour Procedural Reform (RPL) commencement has entailed since July 2017, particularly in terms of reducing employment discrimination. The development of competences through virtual and continuous training methods, tailored technical assistance (based on the needs and participation of those involved), the use of technology to efficiently gather and improve collection of evidence of violations and process, will be part of the mechanisms to ensure the changes proposed. MTSS officials at the national level, and especially those from the three local offices identified (Liberia, San Carlos and Guapiles), as well as union leaders and representatives of employers' organizations, will be the direct beneficiaries of the project through whom, once the conditions and capabilities are improved, the country's workers, particularly those from the pineapple export sector in the selected areas, will be the end beneficiaries of the intervention.
