The way forward after the revolution: Decent work for women in Egypt and Tunisia - Phase II

Building on the achievements of the first phase, the project aims at supporting ILO’s constituents, including the Government, workers’ and employers’ organizations to address the challenges women are facing in the labour market. It seeks to address the barriers to a satisfactory women participation in the labour market through a comprehensive approach that works at the macro, meso and micro levels and that tackles at the same time access to employment, entrepreneurship, decent work conditions, and social dialogue. The Government and the social partners in both countries are committed to closing the gender gap in the world of work, including by ensuring a better application of two key international conventions ratified on gender equality at work1. The project will continue to work with both Governments and with the most representative workers’ and employers’ organizations to strengthen their role in the promotion of gender equality. This work will build on and prolong earlier engagement and solid relations with these partners, in the domain and gender equality and beyond, to: make labour and private sector development policies more gender-responsive and the private sector able to attract, retain, and promote women in decent work; to strengthen and expand successful models for women’s entrepreneurship development and achieve a better inclusion of women in supply chains and local rural development; and to make workers’ and employers’ organizations benefit from increased women leadership and gender awareness so that they promote gender equality and nondiscrimination in the world of work.
