Supporting the Implementation of Sustainable Social Protection Floors for the Workers and their Families in ASEAN - Phase II
In ASEAN there is a growing consensus that the progressive extension of social protection to all is a key objective in policy formulation for reducing poverty and inequalities, and achieving inclusive and sustainable development. However, coverage and level of protection across the population and across countries remain unequal and insufficient, despite the growing political commitment for more and better social protection coverage. The Project will focus its technical intervention mainly in the area of social insurance, building on the lessons learned from the Project first phase but also on the lessons from past assistance provided by the ILO to the selected countries; and making use of its established networks, comprising policy makers, scheme administrators, research institutes, and technical officials of various implementing agencies in the target countries. The project will also aim at fostering regional exchanges, sharing lessons learned and best practices. Whenever possible a particular attention will be provided to the example of the development of social insurance in Korea, with its potential to constitute a source of inspiration for countries who are giving their first steps in the development of their own systems.
