Joint UN Plan on AIDS - Uganda
According to the Uganda Population-Based HIV Impact Assessment (2016/17), it is estimated that 45% of HIV infected males have not yet been diagnosed, 48% of males known to be HIV positive have not been enrolled into care and males are now the face of AIDS-related deaths in the country. The fact that fewer men are receiving HIV treatment means that there is a group in the population with high HIV viral load. There is also growing evidence around poor health seeking behaviour among men, largely influenced by socio-cultural norms, beliefs and values, which is attributed to the low up-take of HIV testing, prevention and treatment services. The project's immediate objectives are a) mobilize and sensitize workers among male-dominated sectors for increased uptake of HIV VCT services; and b) strengthen capacity of the private sector to institutionalize and implement the resource mobilization and accountability framework of the one dollar initiative for HIV&AIDS.
