ILO/UNICEF Interagency Project to Combat WFCL for adolescent girls in selected communities in Malawi
The interagency joint project proposes to initiate modalities and strategies for supporting out of school girls with vocational and entrepreneurial skills that are appropriate and relevant for children and communities in Malawi and which are within the mandates of ILO, UNICEF and Government of Malawi. The Project will be implemented with funding from UNICEF and will contribute to the overall project objective of retention of younger children in primary schools and inculcation of basic literacy and vocational skills for economic livelihood for older children/adolescents. The proposed project aims to use UNICEF’s Youth and ILO’s Child Labour Programmes and approaches in advancing the above objectives while ultimately, contributing towards improving access and quality of education and economic independence for youth withdrawn from child labour. The project will therefore, replicate and build on successful strategies of the two projects to ensure achievement of the objectives. The project will be implemented on a pilot basis as ILO and UNICEF work towards a full joint programme.
